#ImmigrationAction - Brack Obama Lays Out His Steps To Solve The Problem

Posted in: , ,

President Barack Obama is getting set to go primetime on the promises he has been making since his first term in office to reform immigration in America. In the run up to his 8PM announcement on the major TV networks, the president and his team have been campaigning heavily online - on social media as well as the government's website.

Senior administration officials say Obama will lay out changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress. A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law abiding undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and residents and others, CNN reports.

Below are some excerpts from the President's remarks released by the White House;

"Mass amnesty would be unfair. Mass deportation would be both impossible and contrary to our character. What I'm describing is accountability -- a commonsense, middle ground approach."

"If you meet the criteria, you can come out of the shadows and get right with the law. If you're a criminal, you'll be deported. If you plan to enter the U.S. illegally, your chances of getting caught and sent back just went up."

The president released a one-minute preview of his speech on the Barack Obama Facebook page, and a longer 10-minute speech will go out tonight on several networks including a break in the Latin Grammys by Univision, but not ABC, NBC, and CBS.

The president has also been building anticipation on Twitter. What do you think of President Barack Obama's Immigration action especially knowing he's not backed by Congress?
