Amazing! Paralysed Bride Stands Up From Wheelchair To Walk Down the Aisle On Her Wedding Day

Posted in: , , ,

27 year old Gina Giaffoglione was paralysed from the waist down after a bad car accident which meant the former athlete could no longer feel her legs or walk. Since her accident six years ago, Gina has had to use a wheelchair to move around each day.

When her fiance John Springhower proposed in 2012, Gina decided that she wanted to walk down the aisle on their wedding day. The goal seemed impossible but her fiance, her dad Gary and close family knew about the plan and supported her.

However, the bride to be and her family kept her progress secret from every other person and so all the guests at the wedding were pleasantly shocked on the day.

On their wedding day, everyone watched in amazement as the bride walked down the aisle with her father and then stood up to say her vows to her husband.

Her dad Gary Giaffoglione told KETV; "I told her, 'Whether we roll down that aisle or whether we walk down that aisle, we're going to do this.' It's been her dream. Obviously it's a dad's dream of having the honour of walking your daughter down the aisle,"

Gina says of learning how to walk again; "My legs feel like when your foot wakes up from being asleep. It feels like that 24/7."

People Magazine reports;

Gina went through months of physical therapy at CHI Health Rehabilitation Center at Immanuel Hospital to make this wish come true, and managed to keep her progress a secret the entire time.

After a year and a half, Gina learned to straighten her body and walk with a brace and crutch. Prosthetics specialists with the Hanger Clinic then redesigned the bride’s bulky leg brace, so she could covertly hide it under her wedding gown.
