Alexandra Shipp Replaces Zendaya in Aaliyah Movie, Wendy Williams Named Executive Producer

The show must go on I guess. A new actress will now be playing the role of Aaliyah, in the Lifetime biopic about the late singer’s life. Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp will replace singer/actress Zendaya, who quit earlier this month [read here].

The news was announced Friday, by Wendy Williams, who shared the news with her audience on the Wendy Williams Show, telling them;

Wendy Williams who will be executive producing the made for TV movie shared her exciting news tweeting:

The talk show host revealed that the biopic will share Aaliyah’s personal life, along with the drama surrounding her rumored relationship with R.Kelly. Her relationship with producer Dame Dash will also be included.

As previously reported, the movie Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, will be based on a book, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, by Christopher Farley.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will resume filming this summer and will premiere this fall.

  1. I thought they wouldnt go with Zendaya cos she isnt "black enough". This Alexandra looks mixed race to me. there is no difference btw her and zendaya. That poor girl endured so much backlash from the black community. its not fair. the movie will probably suck. lol
