BLOGFEST: Design Your Book Cover

Posted in:
This is from Teralyn Rose Pilgrim of A Writer's Journey, she wants us to stretch our cover design skills, lol. I have to admit that I had professionals design the covers of both my books, A Heart to Mend and A Love Rekindled. I'm terrible with GIMP, Paint, Adobe and all those other arty softwares though I have the free versions on my laptop. Anyway, I did the one below on paint for my current WIP.

I know, I know, it's terrible. Bear with me. :) And this is just the tentative title.

A Fiery Love: Thirty year old Dunni returns to Nigeria on vacation and is seduced by local lothario, Babs. Can the chemistry between them translate to lasting love?

PS, the writing is going slow but it's going. I should post an excerpt next week. Cheers!

  1. Not tht terrible ma. I think you did very well for a start. So, thumbs up! You always challenge me with the way you bring out your books... hehe

  2. That's not terrible! I can't use GIMP, I tried last week and it was awful! I like the title.

  3. Cool cover!!!

All the best for the contest!! Looking forward to grab a copy of your fiery Love, once it is published!!

  4. Great start, the picture on the cover is subtle but captivating at the same time.

  5. I can't wait to read the excerpt, and the cover is looking good. I can't wait to see the final product.

  6. Not terrible! A very peaceful simplicity :)

  7. Hi, Myne! I didn't have to follow you, because I already do. ; ) I'm in your contemp/mainstream group at Rach's campaign.

  8. Less is more sometimes - good job!

  9. Thank you all so much.

@Zan Marie, I'm looking forward to the campaign.

  10. It's not that bad. Can't wait to read the book :)

  11. Hi,

She has a look of scepticism about her, like she can't believe it's going to be more than a fleeting romance! ;)

  12. For a start it looks good. Not terrible at all. You'll definitely brush it up as you learn more

  13. You'll get it right Myne, you resilience will pay off.

  14. Myne, I'm so glad to have met you! The woman on the cover of your book is beautiful. I look forward to learning more about you and your stories!

  15. Bravo! Keep trying, just make her abit central on the cover and not so large image. I do graphics abit, not as perfect yet but I really hail ‎you Myne, you're such a woman(you're skilful and it challenges ‎me) :)
Whenever I'm asked; "Do ‎you know Myne,I'd say YES" ‎ℓ☺ℓ

  16. @Enybees, thanks for the pointers, and I hope we can meet one of these days. :)

  17. What a beautifully strong woman. I'm intrigued by her--so I am intrigued by your novel!

  18. Stopping by on my way round the entries. I think it's a great cover, lovely model and I like the subtle and uncluttered background.

  19. Myne. great points for efforts.9/10..but errrm i feel the name and face cover don't mesh :(.

For me, when I see a portrait on the cover then i expect that the story/title focuses on that person like a bibliography or something (e.g. Jagua Nana's daughter), but if its romance bring on the couple.even if he is a shadow in the background. Furthermore she doesn't look fiery. smouldering maybe. something about a twinkle missing in her eyes.

    okay I'm out!

  20. It's a good start. Could be better. LOL

  21. I am really uneducated with graphic design programs as well, so I did my cover in Paint too. No shame. :) And your book cover isn't bad at all! I love the blurb you included.

  22. Please let me know if you're looking for a writer for your blog.

You have some really good articles and I believe I
would be a good asset. If you ever want to take some of the load off, I'd really like to write some articles for your blog in

  23. Acid reflux diet is needed to alleviate manifestations of heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux.
' use chewing gum to help produce more saliva but avoid the peppermint flavour.
Your upper torso is raised only 6 to 8 inches but it really is enough to offset
the effects of regurgitated stomach acid.

  24. Sciatica occurs
when the herniated disc presses against the nerves
which go to make up the sciatic nerve. While the discomfort begins slowly in most
cases, it can get worse whilst sitting or standing, or when exerting lung pressure while coughing or sneezing.
On average, symptoms will only happen on one side of the body.
