  3. Its funny you mention this. Recently, my friends and I had a big shout match over masturbation and sex toys. One of my girlfriend is having a Sex Toy Party for her 27th birthday on the 22nd of January. Where someone will come in and educate us about Masturbation, Poll Dancing and Sex Toys. I am EXTRA excited.

Well, there were too extremes who took part in this argument the Very Sexually Active and the Un-experienced Virgins. The sexually active advocated for sex toys stating that in the real world they do not have enough time with their partner to climax every time. Their Sex toys just Top off things 'nicely'. Furthermore, they deeply believe it has enhanced their sex life between their partners.

In Constrast, the Virgins said if they were to start masturbating it will give their future partners a unrealistic goal to live up too. Moreover, would possibly inhibit satisfaction with there first experience. Also, some felt strongly that constant self-gratification via sex toys, will lead to a mundane sex-life with their partners.

I am not sexually active, I purchased a sex toy my first year of college "a stimulator" (non-invasive sex toy) with my friends as a joke from Spencers Gift shop (they are at most malls here in the US). I was very unexperienced (lol still am) and had no idea what I was doing with it. To the Garbage it went! At 26 I have waited long enough, therefore i am extremely curious. Now I am not sure if I plan to buy anything at my friends Birthday party, because I am sure it will event in a "pandora's box" like situation, where it may open the door to something I am not ready for (example addiction or further my curiosity for the real thing)

Lol sorry For the Essay. It's Just that this topic hit home especially since it was recently addressed. I support sex toys in marriage, i think it should intensify the sexual experience between partners. However, if your mate has a problem with it then I think it should cease. Like all things, people that are avid 'self-gratifiers' should practice self-control before it turns into an addictive behavior, which could open door to infidelity.

Lolll Sorry for being Longwinded. I will let you know how my sex toy party goes on the 22nd.

  4. hmmm...ok... this is interesting? clearly i don't know what to say

  5. Na wa oooo! We are definitely going to be needing more marriage counsellors in Nigeria, just like they do in US...

  6. Interesting. That's good.

I also think and hope that it will provide a platform for couples to honestly discuss sexual gratification or lack thereof in their relationships should their spouse(s) decide to buy a sex toy.

But my issue is that these toys are only available for purchase online. With how slow naija's network connection can often be...emm, okay. So what about women who have no access to computers/the internet to purchase their products?

I just can't help but lol @ "like to swing from chandeliers"

  7. there is a huge market for it.......(albeit, closet type)

I run a lingerie-selling business and my most asked question is why are you not selling sex toys?
a lot of people want to buy so i say well done to the site......interesting though cuz our culture seems to frown on it...

    to each his own

    ps: what's their site?

  8. I'm all for women taking charge of their sexuality, needs and desires.

However, I do believe a lot of Naija women still do not feel empowered when it comes to relationship and intimacy issues.

This is because religious, cultural and societal expectations often demand that a woman conducts herself in a certain way.

So, unfortunately, we have a lot of hypocrisy going on.

It would be nice if this business was also linked with a Relationship Psychologist/ Sex Coach who is trained and able to offer confidential and impartial advice to women.

  9. I see no web addy in this post. Update please.

  10. Interesting development and about time too. I agree with Naijamum about Naija women not feeling empowered enough to discuss and explore their sexuality. The company may find that they may well need to provide more than just the goods on offer. A counselling service sounds like a good idea to help people understand and make informed choices.

  11. Oh...and I thought I was one of a select few who used that expression: "swinging from the chandeliers". Seeing it here made me laugh. I used to say it just to get a laugh - as in:
Ah, so you had a good night's sleep. Didn't swing from the chandeliers, then?

As for the sex toy shop,(shrug), aint nothing wrong with it.

  18. I know some guys who say they find something wrong with a woman who doesn't own a sex toy. That's the world we live in today. I say whatever floats your boat.

  19. Ah! I saw sex toys on my blogroll and came running! But the question seems to be directed to Nigerian women. :(

If my opinion still counts, as a catholic raised in a very strict and traditional catholic home ruled by caribbean parents- I beleive a woman must know herself. Well. Only then will she be able to guide her partner. Therefore, I'm all for sex toys as long as they are used in moderation and responsibly. There- My two cents.

  20. Strange I was just thinking Ghana could do with one of these shops! Many of my women friends in the UK had a special friend in their draws and another used to host sex toy parties. I was wondering how African women would take to this idea. The Vagina Monologues sums up how many women relate to their bodies (although that is changing) and I wondered if African women felt that way too.
Why shouldn't women finally get a bit of pleasure away from the wham-bam-thank-you-mam type of man? And why not use them with your man too - if they're not too threatened!

  24. Sex toys for WOMEN?! Why would I want a toy, when I can grab the real thing?

I have just tagged you as a recipient for two awards. Visit my blog for details.

  25. My only concern would be the reaction this shop would get from the crowd. I know in my country (Malawi) a large number of people would be appalled by this..probably calling it satanic just the way they do with everything else. But hey, if a woman gots to please herself then why not lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks for the useful comments and awards, as for the latter, I'm coming to get them now. Also the website owners are taking notes, believe me.

  28. I think it is good news. To each his own, and if people want to use toys..why not?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh wow. Interesting. Each to his own, so no one should judge. I don't think i'll purchase one in my single state, but i believe that when i'm hooked, i'd totally want to get some. It would make bedroom activities with (future) hubby really interesting, don't you think? lol

  35. My response is rather stale I suspect but I run the online store myintimatepleasureshop.com. Many of your comments are all familiar and I have also received death threats from those who think I have behaved in a non-Nigerian manner. So SEX and having a healthy sexual life is always an issue in which people go fundamental on bearing in mind their religious leanings.

I've had to begin addressing issues that were not originally in my business plan such as sexual health counselling for males and females who have experienced traumatic sexual experiences such as rape, incest and it's never been addressed.

We've also started to address some of the boarder line issues on feelings - through ladies only wellness and intimacy afternoons; these have turned out to be brilliant and a excellent way for Nigerian women to begin to discuss what it is to be in a healthy sexual relationship with a life partner.

In terms of selecting and buying products, great care is taken in buying what women ASK for. We have reviewers, I know. Your wondering who are these people? But, there are several women in comfortable relationships who have not left the shores of Nigeria who are keen to ensure their intimate life does not suffer. Even after child bearing.

I can be reached and followed on @naijadesires and for those seeking counselling 0818 480 8686; our website www.myintimatepleasureshop.com or like our facebook page www.facebook.com/naijadesires
