Buhari Thanks GEJ & All Nigerians, Urges For Peaceful Celebrations
The president elect Rtd General Muhammadu Buhari is said to have accepted the mandate of the people! After he received a congratulatory phone call from the incumbent president, the APC candidate took to his official Facebook page to thank Nigerians as seen above.
Putting his time as military head of state behind him, Buhari has made history in Nigeria as being the first candidate of an opposition party to defeat an incumbent president, and is also winning his first election as a democratic candidate after he has contested unsuccessfully in 2003, 2007, and 2011.
The Nation Online reports that the Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council Garba Shehu quoted Buhari as having expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for choosing him and his party over and above the PDP and their candidate, the incumbent President, Dr Jonathan Goodluck.
Despite his joy and gratitute at winning, the president-elect says that the mood of the country as well as its current state did not warrant the type of wild celebrations reportedly going on in some cities across the country.
Buhari urged anybody happy with the victory of the APC in the presidential election not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property.
The president-elect is said to be due to make a major acceptance speech in the coming hours.
