2-Year-Old Kills Mother In Idaho Walmart By Accidentally Shooting Her
A woman has been shot dead by a 2-year-old in a Wal-Mart store in Idaho. The 29-year-old was shopping with four children in the store in Hayden, when the two-year-old reached into her handbag and fired the weapon, shooting her dead.
Initial reports suggested the woman was the boy's mother, but the police have said it is as yet unclear how the two are related.
Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Stu Miller said the incident in the store about 40 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington, was an accident.
The woman was visiting the politically conservative town with a population of 9,000 for the holiday season. She was browsing the store's electronics section when the incident occurred, deputies said according to broadcaster KREM 2.
Officer used the store's CCTV footage and witnesses testimonies to decide the shooting was an accident.
The woman did have a concealed weapons permit, the authorities confirmed.
The store closed after the shooting. Lieutenant Miller tweeted that the store will not re-open until 6am on Wednesday.
Walmart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said: "A very sad incident occurred at our store today in Hayden involving the death of a female customer.
"We are working with the Kootenai Sheriff's department as they investigate what happened."
